English Language Requirements

For admission to New Zealand universities, the general IELTS requirement is an overall band score of 6.0 (no band lower than 5.5) for Bachelor’s programs and 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0) for Master’s programs. Some specialized fields like Medicine, Law, and Education may require higher scores.

Work Opportunities in New Zealand

International students in New Zealand can now work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and full-time during scheduled breaks such as summer and Christmas holidays. 

Your eVisa or passport label will state your work rights. Exceeding permitted hours can lead to visa cancellation.

Cost of Study and Living in New Zealand

Universities in New Zealand set their structure of tuition fees. Thus, tuition fees may vary depending on the university, course, and level. The tuition fee in New Zealand's University ranges from NZD 20,000 to NZD 50,000 annually. 

Students have various accommodation options in New Zealand, such as residence halls, shared flats, or private flats, and rent might differ based on the location.  International students in New Zealand are required to show proof of at least NZD 20,000 per year for living expenses when applying for a student visa. In practice, most universities estimate annual living costs between NZD 18,000–35,000, depending on the city and lifestyle.

Visa Requirements for New Zealand

Documents Required:
  • CAS letter from the respective university
  • Academic certificates
  • Statement of purpose
  • Valid Passport
  • Proof of sufficient fund for tuition and living cost
  • IELTS/PTE/TOEFL scores and GMAT/GRE scores
  • Evidence of a medical examination, if required
  • Health insurance
  • Experience Certificates
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Certificates for extracurricular activities
  • A return air ticket to your country, or evidence of sufficient funds to buy one
  • Evidence of good character and police clearance certificate

You may also have to show evidence that you have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses throughout your stay. You will need to show you have NZ$ 15,000 for a full year of study or NZ$1,250 per month.Speak with your AEES counsellor for a detailed list of documents required for visa processing.

You’ll have to apply for your student visa application online using the New Zealand Immigration website. You can apply up to 120 days before your intended date of program’s start date. Remember, your application date is the date when your application fee (USD 345 to USD 356) is paid. There is a centre fee as well which costs USD 26 to USD 31.
