There are two types of scholarship. (Merit based and Need Based):

Why need Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC):

OSHC is one of the prerequisites to apply for the student visa. It is one of the documents you enclose while applying for the student visa. Apart from the fact it is mandatory, OSHC is very beneficial as it covers a wide range of medical expenses. When you complete your application, you will be asked to provide proof of payment as well as confirmation that your OSHC coverage begins when you arrive in USA.

If you hold an F-1 Visa, you are allowed to work in the United States when authorised by a designated school official, but only under certain conditions and in accordance with complex guidelines and restrictions issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service. There are several categories of employment available as an F-1 student in U.S. On-campus employment is the most freely available, while off-campus employment must be related to your area of study and be authorised by the Designated School Official.

In order to work in the US, you need a Social Security number (SSN). However, you can still apply for jobs without an SSN and use the job offer to get a SSN after you are hired. A student visa generally allows 20 hours of work in a week. However, check the inclusions on your visa before you start working.

Post Study Work Permit (PSW) in USA

Post Study work permit is an important aspect for international students going for higher education in USA. There are three types of student visa which allows students to stays back in USA for a limited time period after completion of their studies:

  • → F1 Visa
  • → M1 Visa
  • → J1 Visa

International students holding F1 visa can stay for 1 year after completion of studies and go for temporary employment directly. F1 visa holders can also apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Visa Requirements for USA

The US Government provides an opportunity to all international students to study in the country but as a prerequisite, you’ll have to obtain a student visa first. The visa you need will depend on your age and the type of study you wish to pursue in the US.

The student visa issued by the USA is of three categories. Category ‘F’ for students who attend school, college, university or other academic institutions including language program, and Category ‘M’ for vocational and non-academic programs.

The US Government offers three different student visa types:

  • F-1 Student Visa: to study at an accredited US college or university or to study English at an English language institute .
  • J Exchange Visa (J-1): for participation in an exchange program, including high school and university study.
  • M Student Visa (M1): for non-academic or vocational study or training in the US.

Students need to apply for an F class USA student visa, and it covers the complete course duration. It's essential to fill Form DS - 160 before an interview for your student visa.

 

The USA Student Visa requirements include::

  • → A valid passport that is valid for at least six months beyond your period of stay in the US (unless exempt by country-specific agreements).
  • → Acceptance at a SEVP approved school and your Form I-20.
  • → Application fee payment for the SEVIS.
  • → Non-immigrant visa application and the Form DS-160 confirmation page.
  • → Your photograph in the requested format, and number.
  • → A return air ticket to your country, or evidence of sufficient funds to buy one.
  • → If you are opting for Optional Practical Training (OPT), then in addition to the Form I-20, you must apply to USCIS for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
  • → Academic preparation documents such as transcripts, diplomas, degrees or certificates.
  • → Evidence that you have sufficient funds to maintain your living expenses throughout the period of your stay in the US.
  • → Evidence that you will leave the US once you have completed your course of study. This can be in the form of an air ticket out of the US to your home country.

 

You may also have to appear for a personal interview at the US embassy or consulate.
